Lathika remark: EC gives clean chit to Achuthanandan

Thiruvananthapuram: The State Election Commission Saturday said there was no violation of electoral code of conduct in the statement on Lathika Subhash made by Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan.

The Commission arrived at the decision after examining the video footage of the media conference in which Achthanandan made the controversial comment.

“She (Lathika Subhash) is famous for many things. I don’t have to tell you. You can find out,” the CPM leader had told reporters during a meet-the-press programme. Lathika Subhash, who is the UDF candidate in Malampuzha had complained that Achuthanandan's words  amounted to showing were meant to malign her.

Achuthanandan later said the media had misinterpreted the comment he made on Lathika. “Lathika has served as Kottayam panchayat president and PCC member.  Holding such positions means she is famous", he said.
