Childhood in Kottayam
Born in Kaduthuruthy, Kottayam on May 30, 1964. He grew up in an agricultural family, which gave him firsthand awareness of the issues faced by rural farmers, water scarcity, and agricultural price fluctuations.
KSC Leader & Educational Days
Graduated in Malayalam and went on to obtain a Master's degree, followed by a Law degree from Government Law College, Ernakulam. He entered politics through the Kerala Students Congress (KSC), the student wing of Kerala Congress, eventually rising to become its state president.
First Legislative Win
Elected to the Kerala Legislative Assembly for the first time in 1996 from the Kaduthuruthy constituency. He quickly established himself as a dedicated advocate for the developmental needs of Kottayam district.
PWD Minister & Cabinet Experience
Appointed as the Minister for Public Works in the V.S. Achuthanandan cabinet (as part of the coalition arrangement) in 2007. During his tenure as PWD Minister, he spearheaded major road development projects and expedited bridge constructions.
Consolidating Kaduthuruthy
He was re-elected from Kaduthuruthy in 2011, 2016, and 2021. He served as a senior leader of the Kerala Congress, working closely with P.J. Joseph to safeguard the interests of central Kerala's agrarian communities.
Irrigation & Water Infrastructure
Joined the Satheesan cabinet on May 18, 2026. As Minister for Irrigation and Water Supply, he is committed to modernizing river-valley projects, ensuring pure drinking water access to all households, and promoting affordable housing.
